Galatians 1:13-14 For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it. (14) And I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers.
Paul’s zeal for the traditions of his Jewish fathers was so strong that he persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it completely. Paul and the nation of Israel were under the yoke of the law and all but a small remnant pursued righteousness through this law. Most failed to turn to God for mercy, as did the small remnant, and their hearts were hardened. Therefore, while Paul was extremely knowledgeable in Old Testament Scripture, he was blind to his need for mercy and redemption from God.

Ah, for the illuminating work of God the Holy Spirit upon His elect ones!!!
Yes Mark! Much doctrinal confusion results when people claim a portion of the credit for their salvation rather than give 100% of the credit to God.
