19) Jesus fulfilled the Law to redeem His people

Matthew 5:17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

Jesus is the promised redeemer of the Old Testament prophecies. He perfectly fulfilled the law of Moses to provide righteousness for his people and He died on the cross of Calvary to make atonement for their sin. Believers take hold of this redemption through faith alone.

One stupid argument against Christ's righteousness being imputed to us is that the Bible teaches that righteousness did not come by the law. Well, the fact that Christ obeyed the law PROVED that He was righteous. He DID NOT have to earn anything.

Mark,
Good point. He fulfilled the law for us, not for himself. That way the blessings of the law were earned for us by our representative who qualified by being fully human as well as being fully God. This is something man is unable to do for himself, and thank God he provided Jesus who was born under law to redeem man from the curse of the law.

The double imputation is that Christ took our sin and we are covered by his righteousness which is imputed to us.
