28) Scripture alone must determine doctrine

Acts 17:11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.

While trained Christian pastors, teachers, and theologians are part of God’s plan for His church on earth, Scripture alone is sufficient and should be the guide for determining if the dogma contained in creeds and commentaries are so. Creeds and confessions of faith have great value, but they do not trump the teaching of Scripture. Logical theological deductions also do not trump Scripture. When Christians cannot reconcile creeds to Scripture, then Scripture must take precedence.
